Palestinian detainee Shoroq Doyyat marked her twenty-sixth birthday in Israeli jails on Sunday, August 13, 2023.
Israeli occupation forces first detained Doyyat on Al-Wad Street near Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem’s Old City in October 2015 after assaulting her and removing her headscarf.
Palestinian fighters reported that Israeli troops fired four bullets into her shoulder and neck and bleeding in the street for half an hour before being transferred to an Israeli hospital.
Israeli occupation court arbitrarily sentenced Doyyat to 16 years in prison and a fine of NIS 80,000. She is currently serving her eighth year of detention in Israeli jails and is one of the longest-serving female Palestinian prisoners.
Around 5,000 Palestinians, including 30 women and 150 children, are currently incarcerated in Israeli occupation prisons, according to the Commission of Detainees Affairs.
