On Tuesday, August 8th, the Israeli occupation military ordered Palestinian residents of Salta, near the West Bank town of Salfit, to cease construction on 15 houses.
Ibrahim Al-Khatib, head of the Salta Council, stated that the Israeli occupation forces handed the Palestinian residents in the village of Salta stop-work orders in inhabited houses in the eastern region.
The homes are located in Area C, where according to B’Tselem, Israel’s human rights organization, it is nearly impossible for Palestinians to get a permit. Residents desperate to accommodate the growth of their communities often begin building on their own.
The owners of the threatened homes in Salta are Izzat Khatib, Raed Khatib, Youssef Ali Sarsour, Muhammad Othman Khatib, Muhammad Ali Musleh, Yassin Sarsour, Naim Musleh, Saif Mashhour Salah, Nabil Salah, Muhammad Salah, Muhammad Sabah, and Khaled Khatib.
According to OSHA, the Israeli occupation military has seized, demolished, or forced residents to demolish 293 Palestinian houses and structures in the first quarter of 2023. Last year, Israel demolished 953 Palestinian homes, the highest number since 2016.
