An Israeli investigation published by the Hebrew newspaper Haaretz revealed the collusion of the Israeli occupation army with gangs in the Gaza Strip to loot humanitarian aid.
The newspaper said that the army allows gangs in the southern Gaza Strip to control and loot aid and obtain “bonuses”, noting that gang members in Rafah divert the path of aid convoys and loot them with the complicity of the army.
The newspaper said that the army allows gangs in the southern Gaza Strip to control and loot aid and obtain “bonuses”, noting that gang members in Rafah divert the path of aid convoys and loot them with the complicity of the army.
The newspaper indicated that “the army allows trucks to enter dangerous areas in the southern Gaza Strip despite its knowledge of the presence of gangs setting up checkpoints to loot them or force their drivers to pay large sums of money, reaching tens of thousands of shekels.”
The newspaper pointed out that the truck robberies take place in front of the army and hundreds of meters away from its forces.
The newspaper quoted an official in an international organization confirming that he saw an armed gang member with a Kalashnikov rifle standing near an Israeli tank in the southern Gaza Strip. The newspaper confirmed that international organizations appealed to the occupation army to intervene to prevent the theft of aid, but it refused. The army also rejected – according to the newspaper – a request by humanitarian organizations to change the routes of aid trucks to safer areas.
It stated that gangs force international truck owners and humanitarian organizations to pay “extortions” through a Palestinian mediation company connected to the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories.
The newspaper revealed that the occupation army clears the occupation areas for the complicit gangs by deliberately targeting Palestine police officers who are normally tasked with securing the aid deliveries.
